1984-Winston Smith Essay WINSTON SMITHWinston Smith, the primary character in the novel 1984, rebels, acts difficult, and shows braveness against the Party from numerous points of view. The Party is a gathering who controls the individuals of Oceania. There are numerous guidelines that the individuals must submit to. On the off chance that they dont and they get captured, they will be rebuffed. Winston was one of those individuals who revolted until he got captured. One of the ways he defied the Party was toward the start of the novel. Thinking adversely against the Party is a wrongdoing. You should accept what the Party needs you to accept and on the off chance that you dont, at that point you are causing a wrongdoing. Winston never truly had faith in the Party and by demonstrating that he didnt he didnt take an interest the right path in the Two Minutes Hate. In the Two Minutes Hate, you are indicated a kind of film for two minutes which is about the adversary to the Party and you should cheer against it. Winston just watched the individuals holler and shout for some time and afterward he began to participate and understood that The loathsome thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a section, however that it was difficult to abstain from participate. Winston additionally acted daring toward the gathering. To show his braveness, he dated Julia and composed awful things against the Party when he realized it wasn't ri ght. Winston realized that on the off chance that he got captured, he would get rebuffed however he acted fearless and did it any ways. Here is a case of his braveness in the novel: His pen had slid attractively over the smooth paper, imprinting in huge perfect capitals-DOWN WITH BIG BROTHERDOWN WITH BIG BROTHERDOWN WITH BIG BROTHERDOWN WITH BIG BROTHERover and over once more, filling a large portion of a page. Winston didn't just revolutionary against the Party and act daring, yet he likewise acted difficult. Toward the finish of the novel, Winston winds up getting found defying the Party. He was then compelled to go to the Ministry of Love. There, OBrien controlled the torment that Winston needed to experience to be conditioned into having confidence in the Party. In spite of the fact that Winston was tormented harshly, he utilized his stubborness to keep going as long as possible before surrendering. Here is a case of his stubborness: OBrien held up his left hand, its back toward Winston with the thumb covered up and the four fingers broadened. What number of fingers am I holding up, Winston?Four. What's more, on the off chance that the Party says that it isn't four yet five how many?Four. I think George Orwell utilized the character of Winston Smith in 1984 to demonstrate that it is so natural to be indoctrinated. Winston utilized his braveness to defy the Party despite the fact that he realized he could get captured and afterward when he did, he utilized his stubborness to do whatever it takes not to yield to the torment however he wound up coming up short. In the wake of perusing my models, I trust you get that in spite of the fact that he gets captured, Winston is known, by the perusers, for his rebellousness, braveness, and stubborness against the Party. Aristotle s Theory Of Falling - 1747 Words

My thesis is twofold: Aristotle’s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre-Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the creation cosmology of Plato’s Timaeus. Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, â€Å"The Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things† (Kirk B13) . The tradition continues with Anaximenes, â€Å"The earth is flat and rides on air† (B13) and reaches a zenith with Parmenides, â€Å"†¦there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well-rounded on every side, equally balanced in every direction from the center† (Fr. 8 32-49). These three quotes identify two themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its place in the universe and what is its shape. Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology in the Timaeus, â€Å"†¦he should fashion the world as a single whole†¦ And he gave it a shape appropriate to the kind of thing it was†¦ Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Timaeus 33a-b). Plato identifies the correct shape of the earth but he does not argue for this conclusion. Aristotle will have to ground this idea in empirical science not myth. Writing The Development Of Writing - 1329 Words

The development of writing begins as early as we learn how to write letters in preschool or kindergarten. Writing grows as we learn to read and write throughout our school days and beyond. Everyone has a unique story of his or her writing experiences; some have horrible experience, while others may have mentors that inspired them. One’s history, experiences, issues and the process of writing, all plays into how I, myself progress in writing. Many years have passed sense learning to write, that there is little that I recall. There was really no such thing as preschool when I was young. But, like most small children, learning to hold a pencil and writing on wide, very wide line paper by following the dotted line to form letters is how I learn to write letters. While preschool was foggy, third grade contains a small memory of writing. I went to three school that year but the second school our teacher had us write and draw a picture story, mine was about a car accident. It seemed like a weird thing to write about but looking back it must have been a lesson on safety. I may have remember this because I actually still have it. Subsequently, in middle school and high school years I recall writing a lot more. Writing many reports or essay on factual subjects: the first president, on elephants, and â€Å"Kill of The Mocking Bird† were a few that I remember. Even though in eleven grade I took a speech class, the subject matters are not in focus. My Wife and Kids Paper I am reviewing an American TV programme by the name of My Wife and Kids. It is about a family living everyday life in which a father gets thrown into the deep end when his wife goes back to work, leaving him to play house-husband with the three kids.  It is an exciting, bubbly TV programme which fits under the comedy genre. The directors main purpose is to provide entertainment for the viewers. My Wife and Kids is filmed in Stamford, Connecticut. The main setting is the family house, the living room, kitchen, garage or one of the four bedrooms. The programme is directed and produced by the Wayans family. This is a big family made up of brothers and sisters associated with TV production. The cast includes Damon Wayans who plays the man of the house, Michael Kyle, the working wife, Janet Jay Kyle, played by Tisha Campbell-Martin. Along with three children, with the oldest being Michael Kyle Jr. played by George O Gore II, Jennifer freeman, who plays the typical teenage girl, Claire Kyle, and lastly, cute young Kady Kyle, played by Parker McKenna Posey. Other characters also include Juniors girlfriend Vanessa Scott played by Brooklyn Sudano. From the age of a young child to an adult. Due to the fact that the programme is based on family life, everyone is able to relate to the storylines.  Many family and friends enjoy the show and find it amusing and witty. Along with TV critics who say My Wife and Kids is a popular US TV show and Funny! The new Cosby show but BETTER! This television programme conveys its main point through the characters actions and their conversations. Everything they do is comical and never dull or dreary. Every episode, the audience react with laughter. I feel that My Wife and Kids fulfils its purpose very well. Its purpose is to entertain and it does just that.  Reason being, the viewers find it highly enjoyable to watch.  For me, I really enjoy watching this programme. I find it really hysterical. The characters do and say sarcastic, idiotic things which make them really, really hilarious. I am also able to relate to most characters and able to understand them. I really agree with the main purpose because it provides me with a lot of entertainment. There is never an episode which I dislike; I actually seem to enjoy every episode that is programmed. I dont seem to have a favourite character, I love watching all of them as they are all amusing in different ways.  Im quite fond of Claire and Junior Kyle. Claire is portrayed to be very witty and dopey; shes always dropping which is quite comical. As for Junior, he is always being humiliated due to his huge head. He is portrayed to be dumb and comments are always being made towards him, making him fell worthless.  This programme can not really be improved, theres nothing to actually improve. However, more characters and more storylines could be introduced.

Government Spending & Budget Essays - Fiscal Policy, Free Essays

Government Spending & Budget Essays - Fiscal Policy, Free Essays Government Spending & Budget As many Federal departments and agencies lurch into an era of running without funds, the leaders of both parties of Congress are spending less and less time searching for a compromise to balance the budget, and more and more time deciding how to use it to their advantage on the campaign trail. Meanwhile money is easily borrowed to pay for government overhead. In an attempt to change this, on June 29, Congress voted in favor of HConRes67 that called for a 7 year plan to balance the Federal Budget by the year 2002 (Hager 1899). This would be done by incorporating $894 billion in spending cuts by 2002, with a projected 7 year tax cut of $245 billion. If this plan were implemented, in the year 2002, the U.S. Government would have the first balanced budget since 1969. There is doubt by citizens that a balanced budget will become reality. A recent Gallop Poll from January, 1996 showed the budget as the #1 concern among taxpayers, but 4/5 of those interviewed said they doubt the GOP will do the job (Holding 14). Meanwhile, an ABC poll from November reported that over 70% of those polled disapprove of the current performance by Congress, and most blamed politicians for failure to take action (Cloud 3709). These accusations of failure to follow through come with historical proof that Congress and Clinton have failed to compromise and resolve the issue. After all, current budget plans are dependent on somewhat unrealistic predictions of avoiding such catastrophes as recession, national disasters, etc., and include minor loopholes. History has shown that every budget agreement that has failed was too lax. One might remember the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings bill that attempted to balance the budget, but left too many exemptions, and was finally abandoned in 1990 (Weinberger 33). So after a pain-staking trial for GOP Republicans to create, promote, and pass their budget, as promised on campaign trail 94, Clinton rejected the very bill he demanded. This essentially brought the federal budget back to square one. Clinton thought such a demand on Republicans to produce a budget would produce inner-party quarrels and cause the GOP to implode. Instead, they produced a fiscal budget that passed both houses of Congress, only to be stalemated by a stubborn Democratic President Clinton. Meanwhile, Clinton bounced back with a CBO scored plan with lighter, less risky cuts to politically sensitive areas like entitlements. Clinton?s plan also saved dollars for education and did not include a tax increase, but most cuts would not take effect until he is out of office, in the year 2001. Although Clinton is sometimes criticized for producing a stalemate in budget talks, the White House points out that the debt has gone down since Clinton took office, with unemployment also falling. Republicans are quick to state that Clinton originally increased taxes in 1993 and cut defense programs, but his overall plan was for an increasing budget without deficit reduction. Startling Facts about the budget: As of 1996, the national debt was at an all time high of $5 trillion dollars, with interest running at a whopping $250 billion per year (Rau M-1). This equals out to an individual responsibility of more than $50,000 per taxpayer. Nearly 90% of that debt has accumulated since 1970, and between 1980 and 1995, the debt grew by 500%. Currently, the debt grows by more than $10,000 per second (Rau M-l), and at current rates, a baby born in 1992 will pay 71% of his or her income in net taxes. At current rates, our government is about to reach its breaking point. If that?s not enough to scare a taxpayer, by 2002, 60% of government spending will be for entitlements, and by 2012, these programs are projected to take up all government revenue (Dentzer 32). Not only economic development, but also family income is hurt by debt. With the cost of living going up, it becomes harder to find a job. According to the Concord Coalition, real wages peaked in 1973 and have gone down ever since. If the economy grew as fast as it did in 1950, without a debt, the median family income would be $50,000, compared to the present median

How Do We Forgive Our Fathers (Poem) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

How Do We Forgive Our Fathers (Poem) - Essay Example The speaker of the poem is most probably a son, a son who faces the double dilemmas of knowing himself and knowing his father, without losing touch with his own identity. The poem suggests that a father’s masculinity defines his personality, which in turn, shapes his attitudes and behaviors as a husband and a father to his family; in other words, masculinity develops and delimits his destiny, a destiny that is intertwined with his children’s identities. In the first stanza, the poem looks at his father through the haze of the past and the future. The first line states: â€Å"How do we forgive our Fathers?† (Lourie 1). These words ask all children about forgiving their fathers. â€Å"Fathers† is capitalized, which makes it more personal because a son would say â€Å"Father† not â€Å"father.† It is in plural form too, which connotes the universality of having fathers as a shared experience. The first line also evokes the image of a father who must be forgiven. The speaker no longer asks if people need to forgive their fathers, but focuses on the process, the â€Å"how.† Apparently, the speaker does not know the process of forgiving someone as important in his life as a father. The poet continues the thought to the second line, which states: â€Å"Maybe in a dream† (Lourie 2). ... The future may be bleak when children have a hard time forgiving their fathers. The question of forgiveness is perceived with both hesitation and opportunity. The next few lines of the first stanza introduce the greatest faults of fathers in general. The third line continues to the idea of fathers’ deficiencies. It states: â€Å"Do we forgive our Fathers for leaving us too often or forever† (Lourie 3). Instead of answering the question â€Å"how,† the poet refers to the reasons why people have to forgive their fathers. The shift of the content from the â€Å"how† to the â€Å"why† provides a clearer explanation of the context of forgiveness. What have fathers done to be forgiven? The poet answers that fathers sometimes leave their families too much or forever, wherein â€Å"too often† means they always have to go to work, and for their spare time, they drink or spend it with their colleagues and friends. This aspect of fatherhood highlights c lass, race, and gender issues. The working class, especially low-income minority groups, spends their lifetime working to make ends meet. As fathers, the patriarchal society expects them to be the breadwinners, which is a gender issue. As men of the house, they must make money, or else, society questions their masculinity. To leave â€Å"forever,† on the contrary, means that the father has abandoned his family. He has sired a child and left him/her to his/her mother. This kind of fatherhood is criticized, but not as blatantly as mothers who abandon their children. Somehow, a masculine world condones abandoning fathers as an acceptable norm. These reasons for forgiving fathers are important because they undermine the essence of a father. A father who is gone or almost always gone can hardly be a father in

Dystopian Disaster Essay Example for Free

Dystopian Disaster Essay A Dystopian Masterpiece In his short story, â€Å"Harrison Bergeron†, author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. tells about a society, or America, in the future being ruled by a totalitarian government, whose number one law, is equality. Everyone is treated equally by law; no one is smarter, faster, stronger or more beautiful than another. The people of the society are forced to conform to handicaps by wearing weights around their neck or masks to hide a beautiful face. Vonnegut shows how far people are willing to go for equality and putting people in degrading situations just to make them equal. Is someone truly equal in a dystopian society, where being above average is not normal and being almost dumb is almost completely normal? In order to demonstrate Harrison Bergeron is living under dystopian society, the reader must examine a society were there are too many laws, in which is the public is being regulated by the state, everyone being forced to conform. One of the qualities of a dystopian society is being regulated by the state; every move made by the public is being watched, making sure that no one is above equality. Equality is taken very seriously, so serious that it became â€Å"the 211th, 212th and the 213th amendment to the Constitution† (1). This shows that at least a few centuries ago when the constitution was written there were just enough amendments but now in 2081 there is more then two hundred. So many amendments, each time a new amendment is added little of equality is taken away. Anyone who was of above average intelligence, beauty, or strength was required to wear a handicap, weights around their neck or an earpiece tuned to the government. Tampering with these weights would automatically give â€Å"two years in prison and a two thousand dollar fine† (2). These weights weighed over forty-five pounds, who would not want to rid that, but is that the price they must pay for equality. Vonnegut character Harrison Bergeron who was above average intelligence, physical strength and beauty was required to wear a handicap, by the state. Harrison wore scrap metal around his neck and â€Å"rubber nose† to hide his beauty. People weren’t allowed to do anything without the government being involved, not even a train of thought. They had to bare those heavy weights, all day for their rest of their lives. Vonnegut short story takes equality a step up from the stairs of equality, putting the public in dehumanized and degrading situation. Hazel being of average intelligence was considered normal although she â€Å"couldn’t think about anything but in short bursts† (1) which goes to show she is to dumb to pose a threat to the handicap generals. While Harrison on the other hand, was above average, had to wear heavy handicaps such as â€Å"tremendous pair of head phones and spectacles with thick lenses† (3 Vonnegut). This was all to weigh him down because he posed a threat with his above average intelligence and physical strength. The state was so afraid of people like him they made him wear those handicaps, now is that really fair. Someone is slightly larger slightly beautiful they have to hide it. Where does that put people, making them dumber rather then helping them, or keeping someone caged up to the point he will rebel. Then there’s the ballerina how had to wear a â€Å"hideous mask† (1 Vonnegut) to hide her above average beauty, had to apologize for her voice. When she spoke it was with â€Å"a very unfair voice for a woman† (3). If your voice is lovely or soothing you cannot use it, it is unfair and possibly punishable by law. Equality is taken a bit too extreme when someone has to apologize for tone of voice. In a utopian society there are not many laws, in â€Å"Harrison Bergeron†, there are too many laws with all those amendments. George Bergeron being above average intelligence is â€Å"required by law to wear it at all times† (1) to wear an ear piece, it is tuned to the government so they’d and goes off â€Å"every twenty seconds† (1) forbidding him to have a train of thought. George cant even remember his son or think about something without a noise going off in his ear. How can someone have a proper conversation with a noise going off in the ear every twenty seconds? This shows a dystopian quality, independent thought being limited or restricted. In this society breaking the law can even cause death. By the time Harrison removed his weights and escaped and took over a television broad cast to dance with a ballerina, at that point â€Å"Diana Glump Handicapper General came in to the studio with a double barrel gun and shot twice†(3). They dies instantly, a world with no jurisdiction or chances, the ballerina did not even have a say in it, it could have been handled differently. Instead, the situation is handled with violence, yet another dystopian quality. A dystopian society has laws, and is ruled by the government, Harrison Bergeron shows this, in no way is it utopian. This goes on to show that Harrison Bergeron is indeed a dystopian society. Its is controlled by a totalitarian government, and their behaviors are regulated by the state. Vonnegut wanted to show American in the future as a dystopia society, showing that America will go overboard for equality. Also by making people lead a dehumanized live by being handicapped forever. This short story contains all the qualities of a dystopian society, not being able to think or under watch of the state, but everyone is used to it. Vonnegut showed that people can let things get out of hand and be taken to extreme levels. One by one, tweak this hear tweak that there, when will it stop.

Education + Parents involvement Essay

Childhood carries a similar attitude for all the children [boys and girls] unto the age 3 years in respect of play, fun and learning. A careful study of Montessori education reveals that the child develops learning, reading and a domestic-kind of assignment as a workshop, tells a lot about the child within three years. This is irrespective of the gender. Reading skills are picked up by children only in this age. Influence on Early childhood education World Literacy of Canada (WLC) approach to early childhood education programming in recent years has been the Early Years of Study – This study of Reversing the Real Brain Drain (published in 1999) by Hon.Margaret Norrie McCain and Dr.J.Fraser Mustard. The findings are: Need for early childhood development programs based on the new understanding of brain development in the early years of and its effect on subsequent learning, behavior and health for individuals. First three years of a child, sets the stage for competence and coping skills for the later stages of life. Need for more integrated framework for early child development and parenting support. Recommendations for parental guidance: Parents must be provided with awareness, support and skills for the early development of their children. Build relation with children. Undertake programs to parents and educators to learn new ways to nurture children and develop responsive relationships between adults and children. Participation of parents in children’s programs. ï‚ § Interactive and supportive learning system with children along with parents. ï‚ § Active role with children in play and reading at home. ï‚ § Create a safe and friendly environment for children. ï‚ § Create programs where children of all backgrounds and abilities will feel loved and valued – this will stimulate brain development, learning and self-confidence. ï‚ § Play-based learning, and problem solving for young children under the guidance of educators and parents. Resources of early childhood development ï ¶ Toy and resource libraries ï ¶ Nutrition programs ï ¶ Cultural events for children .e.g mobile toy book lending libraries ï ¶ Theme-based learning ï ¶ Play-kits. Special efforts and care for parents who are isolated to participate and benefit from the program. Create an awareness that children are part of social structure and emphasis on early childhood development. Parents involvement and its influence on achievement of Reading by students. The approach of the parent towards children is of similar kind with regard to education. Parents who stay-at-home moms can dedicate more time for motivating children in their reading habits especially to boys, by studying their interests and by discussing the topics which will detail about their approach to reading habits. Compelling boys to read for a certain hours of a day, forcibly, would not derive maximum results, as some parents believe. Instead motivation and allowing the boys to think and re-think about themselves, is certainly an achievement for the parents in the long run for developing reading habits. Today’s tech-savvy days also stand as a hindrance to the attainment of reading habits to children. The reason being, an easy access to television, computer, internet, video games, cartoon movies has enabled the children to move away from books, which is not at all a good ground for school education. Parental guidance with teacher’s support is the only solution for imbibing reading habits to children. For instance, the recent ‘Harry Potter’ novels have created a large amount of selling of books around the world. Harry Potter, movies as well as books have been sold by publishers. This includes readers of all ages, including adolescents. †¢ Sorcerer’s Stone †¢ Chamber of Secrets †¢ Prisoner of Ascaban †¢ Goblet of fire This is a relevant example, that children do read books, based on fiction, magic and fun. When it comes to the reading of curriculum, children may not feel as interesting as the fiction is. There is still scope for creating energy and interest among the students, and it mostly rests on the shoulders of parents and teachers. The precious hours of study of students are in the environment of school. The core area for their their learning activity and personality development. Students depict 60 percent effect of their school, while the parental guidance is only 40 percent. Most of the part what they are is shaped only in school. It is a well-known fact that parents and teachers work together to bring the best out of the students. How can parents tell if teachers are doing a good job?   Ed World’s â€Å"Principal Files† team members offer their perspective. Included: Look at the work students bring home and â€Å"the hard sell†. Parents communication with teachers is the key ingredient to the parents to know how their children are studying in the school. Term Grade papers, newsletters give a correct picture of students performance. According to Principal Nina Newlin â€Å"A teacher who has a good relationship with students is likely to be a regular parent informant†. nformation can be through email, telephone but there is a genuine concern about events in classroom to inform to the parents.. Mostly students evaluate a good’ teacher. Parents are also are guided by students in getting answers for their questions.   Students are always honest in answering to the questions of parents about the events in the classroom. Conversation at dinner table, a look at home work or a independent activity given, suggest to the parents, the performance of their children. A prompt check over the assignments is very important duty on the part of parents for the overall efficiency of the student. It also discloses a fact to the student that he/she is being monitored closely and there’s no opportunity to haywire. Many schools follow the procedure of being fair in classroom rules and procedures, tough in standards of performance, and fun in learning and classroom lessonsâ€Å"follow them home† wherever it is required.   Visiting school premises and watching students in the classroom also gives a true picture and to the satisfaction of the parents.   Volunteering also helps parent-teacher community to train the students for maximum achievements in their academic pursuit. Ultimately, if the student is happy and active in and out of learning area, it is learnt by the parent that the student is learning and happy in school area. What are effective steps for boys literacy with the involvement of parents Many child psychologists agree that adaptation of psychological methods to motivate children in inculcating reading habits, would certainly bring about a change in the development of boys. A thorough, methodical and continuous assistance of the parents is required, without imposing any punishments but rewards for one-to-one achievements that a child is prompted to do. In other words, ‘if you read this particular book and tell me’ ‘a reward would be a candy or a snack of your choice’. To this many child psychologists agree. Children are more smarter than parents. Therefore, parents must never let the children know that they are indirectly pursuing the children towards the concept of ‘sit with books for hours and read’, instead an idea of ‘helping hand’ or an atmosphere of an activity should be created. Parents can also prepare a long-term plan for improving the reading habits, by maintaining a statistical record of hours of reading spent by the child. This will also give a clear picture to the parent, whether the goal is being attained. A good amount patience, having a great understanding about the child, likes and dislikes, dos and don’ts, individual perception of the child towards the environment, study of personality will truly help the parent to remove the lacunae in the child. Particularly in the case of boys, in their adolescence they are action oriented. In other words, play indoor games, outdoor games, video games, watch movies, ride bikes, are some of the areas of interest for a large number of boys. A good and plain discussion with boys, about their activities outdoor, at school or college, a bit of guidance, without involving any argumentative statements, will direct the boys to ‘the thinking area’ of their own attainments and to reach set goals. A good friend for a boy should be made available ‘at home itself’ and that is none other than the ‘parent’. Many experts on education made the research study on boys reading habits. They formed an opinion that, boys mostly feel reading is an activity done by girls. Thus, boys are trailing behind the girls. A recent study in Canada, published in ‘Reading Manitoba’ found that 76% of the boys interviewed did not see reading as a feminine activity, and 73% enjoyed reading. Experts opine that offering the choice of material according to the boys interest, would be a good solution in achieving reading habits to the boys. Conclusion Education for children all over the world carries a great importance. Nations which are developed have more advanced sources for imparting education viz., Australia, Newzealand, U.S., Britain.   An analysis of education states that, many parents opt education overseas instead of domestic education. The reason being, parents believe, that the overseas curriculum is extensive, focusing the student to many aspects of education. Although this is partly true, the domestic education shapes the students [K-12] and effective methods of imparting education and touching the interests areas of students must be developed. For instance., domestic projects, like ‘how to do laundry’ ‘how to be a good host’ ‘attend a super market’, these will outline the interests of a students and reveal so much of personality from the students. Based on the results, parents and teachers can study their interests, and accordingly encourage them reading habits in those areas, thereby students also begin to learn to be active.   Modern day system of education, is such as mushroom of notes and homework, internals, exams, to some extent children also feel agitated over the system of education and lose the interest in studies. Adding to this, if parents emphasise more on reading, they catch the boredom and flee to find fund moments elsewhere, which is a common factor among students.   Finally to conclude, a change in system of education, close monitoring by parents and teachers will only lead the children back to the good old days of reading comics, enid blytons, phantom or sherlock holmes. www.worldlit.ca http://www.liamodonnell.com/. The Connection Between Western Capitalism And Mexican...

Globalized Violence: The Connection Between Western Capitalism and Mexican Femicide Globalization: a process of interaction between the social, economic and political systems of different nations, a process powered by international trade and investment. Some assert that globalization encourages the spread of more â€Å"enlightened and egalitarian† Western values and international tolerance, while others believe that this phenomenon harms more than it helps and fosters an uncontrolled and abusive economic environment. There is no shortage of opinions on the matter, though one sure point of fact is that globalization affects all aspects of modern life, including the murky world of gendered violence. Between the signing of NAFTA in 1992 and the middle of 2002, just shy of three hundred blue-collar female factory workers were murdered in the border town of Juarez, Mexico. However, these numbers are simply the tip of the iceberg when compared to the four-hundred-and-fifty additional disappearances duri ng that decade, a grand total that is only increasing with each passing year. In short, these murders eventually sparked international intrigue and distress, forcing the world to take a closer look at some of the uglier consequences of globalization. Essentially, the femicides of Juarez are simply a symptom of a patriarchal society unconcerned with the lives of its workforce, a culture that values products more than the people who produce them: the overlapping timelines of the Juarez
